MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION TRAINING (MAT)

Certification in MAT is required for childcare providers who administer medication to children in a childcare facility. This 8 hour class is required by the Virginia Department of Social Services and includes instruction in: oral, topical, inhaled, nebulized, medication patches, eye, ear, nose, and emergency injection of epinephrine using an auto injector device.

Testing:

  • A written test of 20 questions
  • A randomized practical skill test
  • A liquid measurement demonstration

    Participants must achieve 80% or higher to pass the written exam. In addition to this all essential questions (marked with a star) must be correct to receive a passing score.
    Participants are given two opportunities each to pass the written test and the skills competency.

    Prerequisites:
    1. At least 18 years of age
    2. Able to read and write in English
    3. Proof of current certification in CPR and First Aid

    Rate: $120

    MAT Books: $15 each (optional)


    Certificate valid for 3 years

    Maximum class size: 8 participants
