MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION TRAINING

INDEPENDENT STUDY (MAT IS)

MAT certification is required for childcare providers who administer medication to children in a childcare facility that adheres to Virginia Department of Social Services rules. The class includes a Part 1 web-based training module as well as a Part 2 classroom session. It covers material required by the VDSS, including instruction in administering: oral, topical, inhaled, nebulized, medication patches, eye, ear, nose, and emergency injection of epinephrine using an auto injector device.

Online Session (Viewing video at home/school)

  • Print the certificate of completion from PART 1 and bring to MAT IS PART 2

Classroom Session (Testing in Part 2):

  • Pass 20 question written test
  • Pass a randomized practical skills test
  • Pass a liquid measurement demonstration
  • MAT handouts provideed for classroom usage

    Participants must achieve 80% or higher to pass the written exam. In addition to this all essential questions (marked with a star) must be correct to receive a passing score.
    Participants are given two opportunities each to pass the written test and the skills competency.

    Prerequisites:
    1. At least 18 years of age
    2. Able to read and write in English
    3. Bring current CPR and First Aid cards
    4. Must bring certificate of completion from PART 1
    5. Class open to all whether expired, current, or new to MAT

    Rate: $100

    MAT Books: $15 each (optional)


    Certificate valid for 3 years

    Maximum class size: 8 participants
