ALLERGY MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION TRAINING (AMAT)

The Allergy Medication Administration Training (AMAT) course is approved by the Board of Nursing and Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). It is designed to provide very focused training on giving specific medications to prevent and treat allergy and asthma emergencies.

In this course, you'll learn to give medication by three 3 routes ONLY:
1. By mouth (liquid Benadryl only)
2. Inhaled (inhalers only)
3. By using EpiPen® to give epinephrine

Part 1: Online Session (Viewing video at home/school)

  • The AMAT book can be downloaded from the website or use one from your school
  • Print the certificate of completion from PART 1 and bring to AMAT PART 2
  • If you have any registration problems with PART 1, please use customer service link on web site to get assistance
Part 2: Classroom
1. Bring AMAT book which can be downloaded from the MAT website or purchased from me for $10.
2. Must bring certificate of completion from Part 1.
3. Bring current CPR and First Aid cards.

To successfully complete this course, you must:
1. Pass skills demonstrations
2. Be able to read and write English well enough to understand the health care providers' written instructions and the parents/caregivers' written permissions
3. Be able to write down that you have given medication
4. Be able to read, understand and follow step-by-step instructions for safe the safe administration of medication
5. Have current certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
